Topic: The Word of God and Mental Renovation

Scripture: Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. – Acts 6:3-4

Thought For The Day: A change of thoughts translates into a change of action and a change of action translates into a change of outcome.

There is a purpose for every Word of God. The Word of God has a well-defined assignment or ministry to fulfil on Earth. That is why God makes us to understand that the Word that proceeds from His Mouth has a definite purpose to fulfil (Isaiah 55:10-12). Therefore, it is very important to understand the assignment or ministry of the Word of God in the life of the Christians.

So, what is the ministry of the Word?
God’s Word renews or renovates mind-set
God sends His Word to renew or renovate the mind and thought patterns of man (Isaiah 55:8-9). This means that the Word of God is the container of the thoughts of God; the Word contains God’s ways of thinking. So, association with the Word of God is renovation of mentality. Every time we step into the Word of God, our mentality is sharpened, our mind-set begins to change, our ways of thinking begin to change and our thoughts are renewed and renovated.

You know, whenever thought changes, action changes; a change of thought equals a change of action and a change of action equals a change of outcome. So, continuous contact with the Word equals upgrade of mentality and upgrade of mentality equals upgrade of activity, and upgrade of activity equals upgrade of destiny.

Beloved, my counsel is, do not just read the Bible religiously, study it and let it change your mind-set.

Remember this: A change of thoughts translates into a change of action and a change of action translates into a change of outcome.

Assignments:
1. Make up your mind to study God’s Word diligently.
2. Allow God’s Word to renew and renovate your mind-set for a profitable and productive life and destiny.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask for the grace to study Your Word; Let Your Word renew and renovate my mind-set, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

Our Daily Bread 13 September 2018 Devotional – What’s in a Name?

Topic: What’s in a Name?

Read: Matthew 1:18–25, Bible in a Year: Proverbs 16–18; 2 Corinthians 6

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. Matthew 1:21

“Gip” Hardin, a Methodist preacher, named his son after the famous preacher John Wesley, reflecting Gip’s hopes and aspirations for his baby boy. John Wesley Hardin, however, tragically chose a different path than his ministry-minded namesake. Claiming to have killed forty-two men, Hardin became one of the most notorious gunfighters and outlaws of the American West of the late 1800s.

In the Bible, as in many cultures today, names hold special significance. Announcing the birth of God’s Son, an angel instructed Joseph to name Mary’s child “Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). The meaning of Jesus’s name—“Jehovah saves”—confirmed His mission to save from sin.

Unlike Hardin, Jesus completely and thoroughly lived up to His name. Through His death and resurrection, He accomplished His mission of rescue. John affirmed the life-giving power of Jesus’s name, saying, “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31). The book of Acts invites everyone to trust Him, for, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

All who call on Jesus’s matchless name in faith can experience for themselves the forgiveness and hope He provides. Have you called on His name?

Prayer: Thank You, Father, for providing salvation through Your Son, Jesus. I love You.

Jesus’s name is also His mission—to seek and to save that which was lost.

Topic: The Battle Is In The Mind

Matthew 21:21 “Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.“

Jesus makes it very clear that we must have faith and doubt not. Every believer has faith, but most believers also have an abundance of doubt that negates their faith. It is when we purify our faith and only believe, that victory comes.

Every Christian is at war. There is a perpetual struggle against Satan and his kingdom where there are no “leaves” or “discharges.” Our enemy goes about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Pet. 5:8). Those who resist the devil will see him flee (Jas. 4:7). The only ones whom he devours are those who don’t actively fight against him.

The mind is the battlefield where thoughts and reasonings that are contrary to God’s Word, need to be captured and submitted to Christ, our Commander.

Just as enemy soldiers are captured in war, so rebel thoughts must be taken captive and made to submit to Christ. Our battle against the devil takes place right between our ears. The spiritual weapons given to us are designed for the express purpose of taking EVERY thought captive and making them obedient to Christ. Keeping our minds completely stayed upon the Lord is an obtainable goal.

These weapons of ours are for the casting down of two things: Imaginations; and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. Both of these areas are dealing with the mind. Focus on the good in every area of your life. Failure to recognize God’s blessings in every day living will cause care and anxiety. Recognizing God’s hand in even the smallest thing will cause peace and keep our hearts and minds following hard after the Lord.

Billy Graham 13 September 2018 – Where Is Jesus Christ?

Topic: Where Is Jesus Christ?

Everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing Christ Jesus . . . —Philippians 3:8 (TLB)

“Where is Jesus Christ?” Innumerable students are studying Him and deciding whether or not Christ and the Gospel really matter—whether He is relevant in this modern age. C.S. Lewis, a professor of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Oxford and later at Cambridge, had to do the same thing. He spent his life exploring the great literature of centuries. In his remarkable autobiography, Surprised by Joy, he tells of his pilgrimage from atheism to Christianity. His turning point came with the realization that the writing with the deepest meaning and greatest content was based on a deep, personal faith in God, by men like Augustine, Blaise Pascal, George Macdonald.

Prayer for the day: There is nothing more I desire, Lord Jesus, than to walk closely with You—my Savior and Lord.

TOPIC: Do Not Fear Death

FIRE SCRIPTURE: John 21:17-23

MEMORY VERSE: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” – Matthew 10:28

The MESSAGE:

There is a general consensus that death is an inevitable end for mankind. But the Bible records several people who lived much longer than their contemporaries and two people –Enoch and Elijah –who did not die. Death will come at the appointed time, but you do not have to be afraid of dying. You have an assignment to fulfil, and you are not permitted to die until your specific mandate is completed.

John was the only one of the twelve disciples who died naturally, unlike the others who died under very gruesome conditions. He ceaselessly declared the gospel of Jesus Christ even while in exile. Through the Holy Spirit, he wrote, among other books, the book of Revelation which sealed the entire Scriptures. On the other hand, Peter, who was one of the foremost disciples, was killed. Both men gave a good account of their ministries and their reward will be based on how well they served rather than how long they lived. If you live in fear of death, you will always be in bondage (Hebrews 2:15). Fear will hinder you from taking steps and actions that will glorify God and bless you and mankind. God has promised you abundant life, so you do not need to be afraid of what may or may not be (Psalm 91:16; John 10:10; Ephesians 6:2-3). Dispel every fear of death so you can be free to live a life of faith in God. The abundant life given to you by Christ will make you to live a purposeful life here on earth. It will also secure your life from untimely death or any power that intends to steal it. Jesus said those that God has given Him are surely protected. Nothing and no one can steal them (John 17:12).

Moreover, God does not allow death to steal His beloved children who obey Him and keep His words because they are precious to Him as they abide in His words. God forbade satan from touching the life of Job, though satan persuaded God to give him a chance to deal with Job in trials and temptation. Mind you my friend, if you have genuinely surrendered your life to Christ, your life is secured in heaven where Christ is (Colossians 3:3). Since your life is secured in Christ, you do not need to fear death. When time comes for us to be raptured, it will be a pleasure ride to eternity to meet the saints, the Lord Jesus and God Almighty.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
IF YOU LIVE IN FEAR OF DEATH, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE IN BONDAGE.

PROPHETIC WORD:
You shall not die, but live and declare the works of the Lord.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. O God, arise and let the fear of death die, in the name of Jesus.
2. Strongman of untimely death attacking my life, die, in the name of Jesus.
3. Anointing of life for the sake of Christ, overshadow my life, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Arrows of premature death fired into my life, catch fire, in the name of Jesus.
5. Anointing to endure till the end, fall upon me, in the name of Jesus.
6. Power to serve the Lord till the end of my life, envelope my life now, in the name of Jesus.
7. I shall give good account of my stewardship to the Lord at the end of my life, in the name of Jesus.

Memorise: “Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.”- Psalm 150:2

Read: Psalm 139:1-14 (KJV)

1 O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.

2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.

5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.

14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Bible in One Year: Proverbs 9-12, Mark 6:30-52

Open Heavens 12 September 2018 Wednesday MESSAGE:
One page is definitely not enough to praise this great God, neither are all the pages of this book sufficient to extol His Names. This God is greater than the greatest. Think of anything great that anyone has ever done; my God has surely done greater. In mathematics, He is the greatest. He perfectly calculated the distance needed between all the elements of the universe and their velocities, so that they move together and are just at the right distances apart to maintain a balance. He is also bigger than the biggest, so much so that He uses the whole earth as His footstool (Isaiah 66:1). For someone’s feet to be so big that He needs a footstool as large as the earth, you can be sure that He is indeed a very big fellow. No other entity is as big as this. In like manner, He is richer than the richest. My God has never gone broke, and He can never be broke. The whole earth and its fullness are His: all the natural resources and precious stones, known and unknown to man, belong to Him. He is the God that has money everywhere, even in the belly of a fish (Matthew 17:24-27). A Bible scholar once explained his take on what Jesus meant when He said He would do whatever we ask in His Name (John 14:13-14). He explained that the literal translation of that scripture to English from Greek is that even if we ask Him for anything that does not exist; He will create it and give it to us. He is so rich that He even possesses things that are not yet in existence! He can therefore never be stranded. He will show Himself through you as one who is richer than the richest in Jesus’ Name.

My God can do all things. He not only raised the dead, He also raised up dry bones and transformed them into a mighty army (Ezekiel 37:1-10). Psalm 139 says my God knows all things, and nothing is hidden from Him. He is everywhere, and so he sees everything. You can’t run away from His presence. Furthermore, He can heal all sicknesses and diseases. In Matthew 8:3, Jesus touched a man with leprosy. Not only did He not get infected with the disease, the man was also healed instantly. During one of our Holy Ghost Services in Nigeria, God instructed that all those who had incurable diseases should come to the front of the alter, and I should just walk in front of them with my prayer staff. As I did as instructed, they were getting healed. Those whose healing required surgery just fell and slept while God performed the needed operation on them with invisible hands. After that night, several people testified of getting healed of incurable diseases.

Who is God to you? Is He your doctor or your provider? Is He your helper and your friend? A popular saying goes, “show me your friend and I will tell you who you are.” If you make Jesus your friend, He will also give you the ability to do all that He can do.

 Action Point:
Come to the winning side today and surrender your life to this great God.

Wednesday Hymn 13: Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise
1. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible, hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.

2. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above
Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.
3. To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small;
In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish—but naught changeth Thee.

4. Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
All praise we would render; oh, help us to see
’Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee.

5. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible, hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.
