Topic: Choose Life
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. – Romans 8:6
If you were given the choice between life and death, which would you choose? The answer seems obvious. But, in reality, it’s not.
You see, choosing death doesn’t necessarily mean jumping from the nearest cliff. It’s much more subtle than that.
The Bible says death is being carnally minded, being entangled in this present worldly realm. The Bible also tells us what life is. “My son, attend to my words,” says Proverbs 4:20-22, “…for they are life!”
To be worldly minded is death. To be Word-minded is life.
In Luke 10, there’s a story that illustrates this principle extremely well. It’s the story of Mary and Martha. You probably remember it. Mary was sitting at Jesus’ feet listening to Him teach while Martha was bustling around in the kitchen cooking dinner for everyone.
Finally Martha couldn’t stand it anymore. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, don’t You care that my sister has left me to do all the work myself? Tell her to help me!” Jesus answered, “Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: but one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:41-42).
Mary had set everything else aside, so she could hear the Word. But Martha had let the seemingly important business of living take priority over the Word. She’d chosen death, not life.
You see how easy it is to slip into that?
“But Brother Copeland,” you say, “if I didn’t spend all my time taking care of the business of living, my life would fall apart!”
Oh, really? Martha probably thought that too. She probably thought if she didn’t cook dinner for all those folks, they’d go hungry. But they wouldn’t have. Jesus had miraculously fed multitudes before and He could have done it again in Martha’s home. She could have plopped herself down at Jesus’ feet, and they could have had a banquet at God’s expense!
Don’t make the mistake that Martha did. Don’t get so entangled in the business of living that you choose death by default. Decide to put the Word first place. Choose Life!

Topic: Jesus In The Flesh
John 14:28 “Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.“
Text: John 14:28
Jesus stated His union with the Father so clearly that He was accused of blasphemy more than once. This statement about the Father being greater than Jesus must harmonize, not contradict other claims.
A key to understanding this is given in Philippians 2:6-8, where Paul states that Jesus didn’t think it was robbery to be equal with God, but humbled Himself, taking on the form of a servant (speaking of His humanity). Jesus was equal to God in His divine nature but He made Himself inferior to the Father in regard to His humanity. Jesus didn’t lose any of His deity when He became a man, but He did clothe it in flesh and submit it to the consequent limitations. In this sense, the Father was greater than Jesus.
Jesus is the pre-existent God who chose to become a man so he could redeem us by His own blood sacrifice. When He became a man, He was still one hundred percent God in His spirit, but His physical body was one hundred percent human. His body was sinless, but it was still flesh and subject to the natural things we all experience. The physical Jesus had to grow in wisdom and in stature.
When Jesus was born, His physical mind did not know all things. He had to be taught how to talk, walk, eat, and so forth. He had to learn that He was God in the flesh and accept that by faith. His physical mind grew in awareness of who He was. He had the witness in His spirit, but His physical mind had to “take it by faith”-the same way that we do when we believe who we are in the spiritual realm. Jesus’ mental comprehension of His deity was something He learned and accepted by faith. Jesus had to become aware of His true identity through revelation and knowledge. We must do the same.

BILLY GRAHAM DEVOTIONAL 23 OCTOBER 2018 – WHERE IS HEAVEN?
Topic: Where Is Heaven?
I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me.— Luke 22:29
Many people have asked, “Where is heaven?” We are not told in the Scripture where heaven is. Some students have tried to take some Scriptures and put them together and say that heaven is in the north. They quote Psalm 48:2, “The joy of the whole earth is . . . on the sides of the north . . . ” The magnetic needle points north. Perhaps the Celestial City is in the north. We do not know. But no matter where heaven is, it will be where Christ is.
Many people ask, “Do you believe that heaven is a literal place?” Yes! Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you.” The Bible teaches that Enoch and Elijah ascended in a literal body to a literal place that is just as real as Los Angeles, London, or Algiers! The Bible also teaches that heaven will be a place of beauty. It is described in the Bible as “a building of God”-“a city”-“a better country”-“an inheritance”-“a glory.”
The Bible also indicates that heaven will be a place of great understanding and knowledge of things that we never learned down here.
Prayer for the day: Living Lord Jesus, the knowledge that You have prepared a place for me in heaven brings comfort and delight to my soul!

Topic: Humbly Leaning on the Lord
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. — 1 Thessalonians 5:11
Humility is knowing we cannot succeed by trusting in ourselves and our own human effort. Instead, we trust in God, thankful that He does what we cannot.
As we follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and lean on Him at all times, He always equips us to do what we should be doing. Most human failure comes from people trying to do things in their own strength without relying on God.
I have found that when I feel frustrated, it is because I am exerting fleshly effort trying to do something that only God can do. I suggest that when you feel frustrated that you stop and ask yourself if you are doing the same thing.
Works of the flesh equal frustration, and works of the flesh mean that I am working without God.
We can live the joyful, overcoming life God has for us when we realize God helps those who know they cannot help themselves—those who realize they are totally dependent on Him and are grateful that He will provide everything they need.
Prayer Starter: Father, I am thankful that I do not have to depend on my own strength or best effort to get through life. Thank You that You are here to guide me and help me each day. I trust You and I place my life in Your hands. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Topic: Antidote to Temptation
Memorise: “Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.”– Luke 12:37
Read: Matthew 13:24-26 (KJV)
24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
Bible in One Year: Jeremiah 14-15, Luke 9:28-50
MESSAGE:
Temptation is the pressure to yield to influences that can lead a person away from God and into sin. It is also the means by which the loyalty, commitment and obedience of a child of God is tested and proved. Temptation is a part of life that no one can escape from, because nobody is protected or exempted from its influence. Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself experienced temptation (Hebrew 4:15). The one who orchestrates temptation, also known as tempter, is the devil (Matthew 4:3). He has perfected highly deceptive means of carrying out his evil enterprise, because he has been long at it. However, glory be to God because the Lord has developed a way of escape for every type of temptation the devil can come up with (1 Corinthians 10:13). If we refuse to use the means of escape provided by God, we will end up falling for the devil’s tricks and disobeying God. This can have devastating repercussions, as seen in the fall of mankind through temptation and the judgment of God which followed (Genesis 3:1-24). It is therefore important for us to learn how to overcome temptation and also reduce our exposure to it by applying the antidote provided by the Lord.
In the last few hours before our Lord Jesus Christ was arrested, knowing what was about to happen shortly, He gave the disciples the antidote to temptation, saying in Matthew 26:41:
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
In this verse of scripture, He named watchfulness and prayer as the antidote to temptation. Watchfulness is the state of being alert and expectant while carefully observing a person or situation. The word of God lays particular emphasis on the need to keep watch for two important events: the second coming of our Lord and the devil’s temptation, which is our focus today. We are called to be alert to the dangers posed to our Christian life by false teachings, worldliness, love for money, inordinate ambition, sinful pleasure, sexual immorality, and all other forms of temptation. Your watchfulness should begin with the admonition of Proverbs 4:23, which says:
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
Romans 12:2 also speaks about renewing your mind, and this is best done by filling your heart with the undiluted word of God. Another aspect of watching is bridling our tongue in order not to sin with it (1 Peter 3:10, James 1:26). For your faith not to suffer shipwreck due to temptation, you are called by God to soberly watch and be prayerful (1 Peter 4:7). Are you keeping watch?
Prayer Point:
Father, please don’t allow any temptation derail my Christian journey in Jesus’ Name.
Monday Hymn 18: Conqueror and Overcomers Now Are We
1. Conquerors and overcomers now are we,
Thro’ the precious blood of Christ we’ve victory
If the Lord be for us we can never fail,
Nothing ‘gainst His mighty power can e’er prevail.
Chorus
Conquerors are we, thr’o the blood of Jesus
God will give us victory, thro’ the blood of Jesus
Through the Lamb for sinners slain,
Yet who lives and reigns again,
More than conquerors are we,
More than conquerors are we.
2. In the name of Israel’s God we’ll onward press,
Overcoming sin and all unrighteousness;
Not to us but unto Him the praise shall be,
For salvation and for blood bought victory.
3. Unto Him that overcometh shall be given,
Here to eat of hidden manna sent from Heaven,
Over yonder He the victors palm shall bear,
And a robe of white, and golden crown shall wear.

Topic: The Synergy of Spirituality and Responsibility
Scripture: But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 1 Corinthians 15:10
Thought For The Day: Spirituality without responsibility is insincerity; spirituality that is bankrupt of responsibility is carnality.
There is a synergy between spirituality and responsibility. You cannot be truly spiritual and not be responsible. Spirituality is always accompanied with a sense of responsibility. To be spiritual is to be ready to take responsibility.
Spirituality without responsibility is insincerity. Spirituality bankrupt of responsibility is carnality. Anyone who is genuinely spiritual would be thoroughly responsible. For instance, a spiritual man would be a responsible husband to his wife and children. Nobody would genuinely know God and be a bad wife. As a wife, you cannot claim to know God genuinely and not submit to your husband. As a husband, you cannot claim you love God and you are beating your wife. You cannot say you know God and be duping or defrauding your business partners. If you know God, you will not allow yourself to be paid a salary you did not work for. To be a good Christian is to be a good and responsible husband, child, wife, employee, employer or citizen. To know God well is to do things right; to know God well is to have your conscience alive for responsibility.
Beloved, nothing refines character like spirituality. The closer you get to God the more like God you become in character. (2 Corinthians 3:18).
I prophesy upon you the grace for spiritual intensity and vibrancy. The last time you had character deficiency because of epileptic spirituality shall be the last forever, in Jesus’ Name.
Remember This: Spirituality without responsibility is insincerity; spirituality that is bankrupt of responsibility is carnality.
Assignments:
1. Repent of any area you may have compromised your spirituality.
2. Determine to maintain your spiritual fire at all costs and be responsible.
Prayer: Lord, I ask for Your mercy in any area I have compromised my spirituality. Help me to confirm my spirituality by being responsible Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
