Topic: Who’s Driving?

Read: Romans 6:1–14

Bible in a Year: Jeremiah 51–52; Hebrews 9

Scripture: Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Galatians 5:25

Message: My neighbor Tim has a figurine on his dashboard of a “wild thing” based on Maurice Sendak’s beloved children’s book Where the Wild Things Are.

Not long ago Tim was following me through traffic and made some abrupt moves to keep up. When we arrived, I asked, “Was that the ‘wild thing’ driving?”

The following Sunday I forgot my sermon notes at home. I “flew” out of the church to retrieve them, passing Tim along the way. When we met later, he joked, “Was that the wild thing driving?” We laughed, but his point hit home—I should have paid attention to the speed limit.

When the Bible describes what it means to live in a relationship with God, it encourages us to “offer every part of [ourselves]” to Him (Romans 6:13). I took Tim’s response to me that day as a gentle reminder from God to yield my “lead foot,” because I am to give all of myself to Him out of love.

The question of “who’s driving?” applies to all of life. Do we let the “wild things” of our old sin nature drive us—like worry, fear, or self-will—or do we yield to God’s loving Spirit and the grace that helps us grow?

Giving in to God is good for us. Scripture says that God’s wisdom takes us down “pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace” (Proverbs 3:17). Better to follow where He leads.

Prayer: Loving Lord, thank You for the grace You give us to obey You, and the peace You give us as we stay near.

Though for the Day: What God requires He also inspires.

INSIGHT
Paul dismisses the notion that God’s grace permits us to do whatever we want. In fact, he finds the idea preposterous (Romans 6:2). God’s grace frees us to choose life in Him. That’s why Paul says, “Offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness” (v. 13).

Today, what do I need to offer to God?

Topic: The Fire We Need

Text: Acts 13:1-12 (KJV)

Key Verse: “As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them“ (Acts 13:2).

MESSAGE:

The remedy for a church that would budge is FIRE – the Holy Ghost fire. Have you ever watched a little boy try to get a big old turtle to move? The more he coaxes it, the slower it goes. He then gets a stick and tries to club it. What does the turtle do? It just pulls its head, feet and tail inside its shell for a spell. It just sits there. The little boy gets one corner of the old turtle and props it up with a stick. Then runs to get some matches. He lights the match and holds it under the old turtle. Immediately, things will start happening. If you think a turtle can’t go fast, light up a match stick under Brother Turtle and watch him fly.

In the text, the Holy Ghost gave Barnabas and Saul a special mandate (Acts 13:2). So, they being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed for the assignment. At Paphos, they met a sorcerer, false prophet and Jew, who attempted to withstand them and the salvation of the deputy. Then Saul, filled with the power of the Holy Ghost, cast blindness on him. The deputy believed and was astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

The promised power of the Holy Ghost is given by God the Father to the believer who is thirsty. Christ told the disciples about the promise of the Father while He was with them. The point is, as a believer, there are certain revelations you will never receive and impartations you will never get until the Spirit of God comes into your life.

As a sanctified believer who wants to be extraordinary in the hands of the Almighty, you need the Spirit’s power and fire in your life. Desire, pray earnestly for it and watch it overwhelm you, like the disciples in Christ’s day. With this fire, you will truly begin to enjoy your relationship with God in the fullness of the Spirit.

Thought For The Day: Fire sets ablaze; get baptised in the Holy Ghost.

Topic: Walk In The Light

Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

How do you walk in the Spirit? The way you do this is through living by, conducting your actions according to, and following the leading of the Word of God as quickened to you by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit and the Word of God agree perfectly because the Holy Spirit is the one who inspired the written Word of God.

Denying the flesh will not result in walking in the Spirit. Walking in the Spirit will result in denying the flesh. This may seem like a subtle difference to some, but the difference is truly profound. As a whole, false religions teach that as we overcome our flesh, there is a noticeable increase in the presence and power of God in our lives. That was what the Pharisees of Jesus’ day and the legalistic Jews of Paul’s day taught. Just the opposite is true. As we experience more of the presence and power of the Spirit of God, then the influence of the flesh is diminished. Victory must come in this order. We don’t walk in the Spirit as a result of overcoming the flesh, rather overcoming the flesh is the result of walking in the Spirit.

It’s similar to how you fill a dark room with light. You don’t shovel out the darkness and then light appears. No! You simply turn on the light and the darkness flees. Much of religion preaches to stop sinning (get rid of the darkness) and then the Holy Spirit will come and empower you (the light will come). That’s not the way it works. Man can no more get rid of the power of the flesh on his own than he can get rid of the power of darkness without light. We have to receive the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives by grace and then the union with the Holy Spirit breaks the power of the flesh. The key to breaking the dominion of the flesh is to appropriate the power of the Spirit through faith, while the flesh is still causing us problems. Those who are waiting for the Spirit to manifest after they have subdued the flesh, will wait as long as the man who is trying to get rid of the darkness so the light will appear.

Topic: Open the Flow

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. – Hebrews 12:1-2

Disciplining the flesh. For many believers that phrase stirs memories of frustration and failure. They know it’s important—the Word of God clearly teaches that. But they’re not sure exactly how to go about it.

Some have given up, shrugging off such discipline as impossible. Others are still fighting stubbornly to get their flesh under control—and losing one battle after another.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, we can’t afford to let it be that way. It will cost us too much.

You and I are blessed to be part of the generation that will see the signs and wonders which the prophets of old wished they could have lived long enough to see. We will witness the Spirit of God poured out upon all flesh. But sin hinders the Spirit’s flow. And only as we rid ourselves of it will the power and glory of God be manifest through us. Only then will we experience the glorious things that are prophesied to take place in our generation.

So put your past failure behind you. Make up your mind that you’re not going to let the sins of the flesh rob you of the glory of God. It is possible to step out of the sin you’ve struggled with so long and live under the Spirit’s control. Look to Jesus…He will show you how.

Topic: Good Things Are Costly

In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. — John 16:33

You should not expect the easy way, for if you do you are certainly destined for disappointment. Any person who knows the Bible knows that the Christian life is likened to an athletic contest or to warfare, and neither one is easy. Jesus warned His followers to count carefully the cost, and that certainly does not speak of an easy way. But there is no good thing that comes without cost.

The Christian life is the most satisfying, but only when we actually go all out and all the way. It is the Christian who tries to compromise who finds life miserable, for he has all the problems, without the fellowship that comes through surrender. For every trial and test, Christ supplies an abundance of grace with which to bear it, and in our weakness we are made strong.

Prayer for the day: Let me never look for the easy way when You, Lord Jesus, gave everything for me.

Topic: The Blessing – A Difference Maker

Scripture: And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the Lord hath blessed me for thy sake. Genesis 30:27

Thought For The Day: It is the Blessing that imparts resourcefulness, resultfulness and productivity in life.

The Blessing of God is a non-negotiable ingredient of destiny. The Blessing produces both the irrigation and fertilization of systems or organizations unto productivity. The truth is, when a blessed person enters a dry place, he would wet the place, but when a cursed person enters a wet place, he will dry up the place.

Jacob irrigated Laban’s house and Laban became prosperous overnight (Genesis 30:27, 30) by the power of the Blessing. Also, Joseph arrived Potiphar’s house and everything changed for good (Genesis 39:5) by the power of the Blessing.

By Divine privilege, I have stepped into the lives of individuals, families, and churches that were struggling and they blossomed and experienced drastic turnaround by the power of the Blessing.

So, the Blessing is very powerful; the Blessing is an irrigator of life and destiny.

It has been proven that everyone in this world carries a mantle: spiritual mantle, physical mantle, generational mantle. When you bring a person with a mantle of success over an establishment, the place succeeds but when you bring a person with a mantle of poverty, scarcity, or failure to head an organization, a local government, state or even a nation, the person dries up the place by the negative mantle he carries.

So, it is the Blessing that imparts resourcefulness, resultfulness and productivity in life.

I see a change of story in your family, business, resources, and destiny by the power of the Blessing, in Jesus’ Name. You are blessed!

Remember this: It is the Blessing that imparts resourcefulness, resultfulness and productivity in life.
