Seeds of Destiny 9 October 2018 Devotional — Living To Please God

Topic: Living To Please God

Scripture: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matthew 3:17

Thought For The Day: Your life is either giving God excitement or causing Him embarrassment.

God is the Owner and the Giver of life (John 14:6, Psalms 36:9). There is a purpose God gives life to everyone. A major purpose God gives us life is for us to please and glorify Him with our lives.

Now, what does it mean to live and please God? Living to please God means living as a source of joy, happiness or satisfaction to God with your lifestyle.

Our anchor Scripture shows clearly how God is pleased with His Son, Jesus Christ. This was also the case of Job in Job 1:8. Job pleased God with His lifestyle to the point where God began to boast about him to the devil. The question is, what took Job to that realm? It was a lifestyle of pleasing to God.

Today, there are children of God who bring agony to God by their lifestyles; the way they live disrespects God.

Beloved, how does God feel about your conduct in your place of work, where you live and what you do? Are you giving God pleasure with your life or you are causing Him pain with your life? Is God proud of you or ashamed of you?

The truth is, your life is either giving God excitement or causing Him embarrassment; your life is either a source of pleasure to God or a source of pain to Him.

My counsel is, live to give God pleasure with your life continually all the days of your life.

Remember This: Your life is either giving God excitement or causing Him embarrassment.

Assignments:
1. Determine to give God pleasure with your life
2. Avoid anything that would constitute a source of pain and embarrassment to God

Prayer: Lord, I thank You for Your Word to me today. I refuse to cause You pain with my lifestyle. I connect the grace to bring You pleasure and excitement like Job did, in Jesus’ Name.

Topic: Resist The Temptation Of Sin

Luke 22:3 “Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.”

Some people have speculated that Judas betrayed Jesus in an effort to force Jesus into a confrontation with the Roman government. Then He would have to use His supernatural power in self-defense and overthrow the Romans, thereby giving independence back to the nation of Israel.

This idea is based mainly on the response of Judas when he saw that Jesus was condemned. Judas “repented himself” (Mt. 27:3), implying that the condemnation of Jesus was never his intent. However, scripture does not endow Judas with noble (even if misdirected) virtues. He was simply a thief.

This verse makes it very clear that Satan entered into Judas and was responsible for putting the betrayal of Jesus into Judas’ heart. We can be assured that Satan’s only purpose in motivating Judas to betray Jesus was to steal, kill, and destroy (Jn. 10:10).

Moreover, the fact that Satan possessed Judas does not acquit Judas of the responsibility for his actions. The devil goes about seeking whom he may devour (1 Pet. 5:8). He cannot devour just anyone. We have to give place to him. By being a thief, Judas gave Satan access to him. He may have never intended to betray Jesus and therefore “repented himself” when he saw that Jesus was condemned. Once he began to willfully submit to the sin of thievery, it was hard to stop.

Sin cannot be controlled. We cannot just sin “a little.” Sin, like a cancer, always grows until it brings forth death. Submitting ourselves to God and resisting the devil is our only guarantee against being devoured by the devil (Jas. 4:7). When we choose to sin, we are not submitting to God or resisting the devil.

Why Do We Divide House Chores Based on Gender?

Why Do We Divide House Chores Based on Gender?

Why Do We Divide House Chores Based on Gender? … (A WORD FOR PARENTS and TO-BE PARENTS)

I have realized from observations that many parents divide house chores to their kids based on their gender rather than age!

The girl is saddled with the responsibility of keeping the kitchen clean, cooking, mopping the floor, cleaning the toilets and doing some tasks we assume should be done by girls only.

The boy’s responsibility will be to do the gardening, clear the snow, go to the farm, tidy up the garage, use the vacuum cleaner to clean the house, clear the weeds around the house, and do what we believe are the “hard” kinds of stuff.

In a home where you have more than one kid and you have both sexes, I Believe the kids should be exposed to the same level of house chores irrespective of their gender.

No wonder we have men that cant cook for themselves not to talk of the kids when the woman is not at home. Men that will always prove its the woman’s duty to do this or that simply because they’ve been brought up that way! (don’t miss-quote me, the woman has a duty as well as the man), same with the woman… there are certain things you should be able to do in your husband’s absence! (I’m not talking about things that require lots of energy or muscle.. but simple things that society has taught us that they should only be done by men in the home!). It will surprise you to know that some women don’t even know where the battery is located in a car!

My Suggestion: Rotate them on each of the house chores, with that, they will be vast in all aspects of the home management. They will also stop the “it’s not my duty” game, because they know that “what goes around, comes around”

By the grace of God, I was brought up by my parents in all aspects of house chores, from the kitchen to the farm!

SO, PARENTS, PLEASE TRAIN THE BOYS AND THE GIRLS EQUALLY!

Your Friend, Paul Ojomu

Topic: Offences

Memorise: “Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!”– Matthew 18:7

Read: Matthew 18:1-7 (KJV)

1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!

Bible in One Year: Isaiah 43-44, Luke 3:7-22

MESSAGE:
Our Lord Jesus Christ spoke in very strong terms against offences in today’s Bible reading. I therefore believe it is a wise thing for us to understand what they are and try to avoid them. Offence is a biblical term which refers to an obstruction lying on a pathway over which one may stumble. It is anything that hinders or tends to trip one up in the course of living a righteous life. A hindrance in this regard often stands for temptations to sin. One source of offences that was mentioned by the Lord in His sermon s is the cravings of our body (Matthew 18:8-9). Another source which He also mentioned are the people we interact with on a day to day basis (Matthew 18:7, Romans 16:17). The Lord made it clear that a life without any obstacle, hindrance, stumbling block or temptation is impossible, but that anyone who places obstacle in other people’s path or who leads others to sin is already cursed by God (Luke 17:1). Jesus declared that great sorrow awaits them, so that it would have been better if they were not born. All those who are behind your problems in life shall run into the wrath of the Almighty God in Jesus’ Name.

Some people have mastered the art of setting traps for others, and they themselves have become a living trap, supporting anything that ensnares or hinders people from pleasing God and deriving satisfaction from causing people to stumble. They ensnare unsuspecting and ignorant people, and mislead innocent and immature Christians into fatal errors that lead to hell. Greedy for money, power and fame, they consciously build an army of loyal followers in order to exert their influence on them. They falsely appear as saints and subtly present another “gospel” that is completely different from the gospel of Jesus Christ. Their message is built on human wisdom and understanding but carefully wrapped in a garb of spiritually. They have a warped understanding of the Bible, which they present as new revelations from God or “prophetic preaching”. Their message of easy-going Christianity has led many people into worldly lifestyles and complacency in holy living. Through their activities, many have missed the high mark of God’s calling. You will notice that some of these offenders are experienced pastors who are knowledgeable in the things of God but deliberately mislead others. Therefore, be warned about the existence of such characters within the Church of God. Watch carefully to prevent yourself from falling into their trap. I pray that the rod of the wicked one shall not fall upon your portion, and you will not be led away from the presence of God in Jesus’ Name.

 Prayer Point:
Father, please grant me grace to perceive offences and live above them in Jesus’ Name.

 Monday Hymn 15: Nearer My God To Thee
1. Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
E’en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

2. Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,
Darkness comes over me, my rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

3. There let me see the sight, an open Heaven;
All that Thou sendest me, in mercy given;
Angels to beckon me nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

4. Then, with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!
