Our Daily Bread 24 October 2018 Devotional – Impossible to Hold

Topic: Impossible to Hold

Read: Acts 2:22–36, Bible in a Year: Jeremiah 3–5; 1 Timothy 4

It was impossible for death to keep its hold on [Jesus]. Acts 2:24

Swimming with friends in the Gulf of Mexico, Caitlyn encountered a shark, which grabbed her legs and pulled at her body. To counter the attack, Caitlyn punched the shark in the nose. The predator unclenched its jaws and swam away in defeat. Although its bite caused multiple wounds, which required over 100 stitches, the shark was unable to keep Caitlyn in its grasp.

This story reminds me of the fact that Jesus delivered a blow to death, ending its power to intimidate and defeat His followers. According to Peter, “It was impossible for death to keep its hold on [Jesus]” (Acts 2:24).

Peter said these words to a crowd in Jerusalem. Perhaps many of them had been the ones yelling out, “Crucify him!” to condemn Jesus (Matthew 27:22). As a result, Roman soldiers fastened Him to a cross where He hung until they confirmed He was dead. Jesus’s body was carried to a tomb where it stayed for three days until God resurrected Him. After His resurrection, Peter and others spoke and ate with Him, and after forty days they watched Him ascend into heaven (Acts 1:9).

Jesus’s life on Earth ended amidst physical suffering and mental anguish, yet God’s power defeated the grave. Because of this, death—or any other struggle—lacks the ability to keep us in its grip forever. One day all believers will experience everlasting life and wholeness in God’s presence. Focusing on this future can help us find freedom today.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, Your victory over death gives me hope! I praise You as the resurrected One who died so that I could have eternal life.

The grip of the grave is no match for the power of God.

Topic: God Goes Too!

But the person who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him. – 1 Corinthians 6:17, The Amplified Bible

I once heard about a great man of God who looked in the mirror every day when he put on his suit and said, “Suit, everywhere you go today, God goes in you.” And you know, he’s right. If you have united yourself to God by receiving Jesus as Lord, everywhere you go today…God goes too!

As believers, we need to start becoming more conscious of that. We need to train ourselves to be constantly aware of God inside of us, talking to us, teaching us, counseling us, empowering us and enduing us with Himself.

We need to continually remind ourselves that we are one spirit with Him. That means that every time we face a problem, every time we face an evil spirit that tries to influence and hinder our lives, God is facing it too. When we meet those things, God meets them. And He’s already overcome them!

Let me encourage you when you get dressed today to look in the mirror and say, “I am united to the Lord and I have become one spirit with Him. Body, everywhere you go today…God goes. God is in you. The power of God is in you. The wisdom of God is in you. The victory of God is in you.”

Say that to yourself every day—many times a day. Keep doing it until you begin to develop the habit of thinking that way. Cultivate a constant awareness of the reality of God living in you!

Andrew Wommack Devotional 24 October 2018 – Let God Prune You His Way

Andrew Wommack Devotional 24 October 2018 – Let God Prune You His Way

Topic: Let God Prune You His Way

John 15:2 “Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.“

This purging has been interpreted in many ways. The illustration that Jesus is using is one of pruning; therefore, some have said this purging is a very painful process where the Lord cuts and slashes us through things like sickness, death, poverty, and other forms of tragedy so that eventually we will bear more fruit. This teaching not only promotes problems as being good, but necessary, if we want to bear more fruit.

That thinking is not consistent with the rest of God’s Word or even the context of this verse. The text makes it very clear that the purging that Jesus speaks of is done through the Word that He has spoken unto us.

Paul said in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that God’s Word was given to us “for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” That is God’s method of pruning us, and He doesn’t need the devil’s help. His word will make us “perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

That is not to say that we cannot learn through tragedy: but God has a better way. If we mistakenly think that God is bringing tragedy into our lives to make us more fruitful, then we’ll not resist the tragedies and they will not flee from us. All of us will learn by hard knocks, but the man who welcomes them with wide open arms will suffer greatly and be far behind the man who lets God’s Word have His perfect work in him.

Billy Graham Devotional 24 October 2018 – Prejudice is Weakness

Billy Graham Devotional 24 October 2018 – Prejudice is Weakness

Topic: Prejudice Is Weakness [Billy Graham Devotional 24 October 2018 – Prejudice is Weakness]

Judge not, that ye be not judged.— Matthew 7:1

The word prejudice means “prejudging” or “making an estimate of others without knowing the facts.” Prejudice is a mark of weakness, not of strength. Prejudice is measured by computing the distance between our own biased opinions and the real truth. If we would all be perfectly honest before God, there would be no prejudice.

Prayer for the day: You love each one of us with a love that breaks through all prejudicial barriers, Father. Forgive me for the times I judge others. Purify my heart, that I may be used to draw people together into the bond of Christ’s unifying love.

Is He/She Good For Me? (Single & Searching )

Is He/She Good For Me? (Single & Searching )

Is he or she right for me postMany a time, in other, to know if someone is God’s perfect will for us, we are prompted within us to go and ask some men and women of God as well as our spiritual parents whom we believed have access to quick revelation based on greater grace.

Many of them will tell us “he/she is good” and with that, we believe we can go ahead with the relationship. Only a few of them will tell you the reality behind the choices you’re about to make.

That the person is good doesn’t mean he or she is good for you. The question you should ask each time they tell you he/ she is good is that “is the “good,” good for me??”Is he or she right for me

This is because not all good has the capacity to proceed to the comparative/ superlative …not all good has the capacity to become better let alone becoming Best. So the question is, “is the good Good for me?”. Don’t just ask them, be spiritually inclined as well.

You see; you can never tell how good the person is for you unless you receive your own confirmation from God. It is not what people say that keep you going but what God says and your determination to run with it leads to fulfillment.

It is quite unfortunate that majority of the claim “it is God’s will” are merely and actually prompted by the will of the gods ruling the carnal desires.

Finally while praying to know God’s will for your life, don’t expect %100 Revelation about the person. All you need is something Good to start with. Other things to know about the person will reflect as the relationship unfolds.

The thought of God for us is of good and not of evil. The Good that God has for us is encapsulated with Power to produce a Future of peace, health and fulfillment. The Good that God has for us is not just a name but a position that leads to perfection.

It is now left for you and me to renew our mind daily to be transformed enough to the level where you can discern and now for yourself what is good, acceptable and perfect will of God for you
