Topic: A Two-In-One Relationship [DCLM Daily Manna 6 September 2018 Daily Devotional]
Text: Matthew 19:1-12 (KJV)
Key Verse: “But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given“ (Matthew 19:11).
MESSAGE:
Jesus, in His early ministry, esteemed teachings about the kingdom of God. Aside from using this medium to draw men to God, He needed to show forth the true perspectives of the kingdom.
The text today lays emphasis on the institution of marriage in relation to the question of divorce. The question the Pharisees asked Jesus about divorce, therefore, orchestrates from a mischievous perspective. Jesus, in response, made them aware that if marriage would indeed align with the perfect will of God, it must be according to God’s design of a two-in-one relationship (Matthew 19:6). The Pharisees justified their question by referring to Moses’ injunction that a man could give his wife “a bill of divorcement” if she no longer found his favours due to uncleanness (Deuteronomy 24:1). But Jesus overruled this because that was not in the original plan of God. Moses did this because the people hardened their hearts. God planned that the husband and the wife are to be one flesh (Matthew 19:6).
From Jesus’ teaching, marriage is a union of sacrificial love, longsuffering and reciprocal dealings. Divorce is a product of bitterness and no bitter person will inherit the kingdom of God.
Marriage is a true reflection of the union between Christ and His Bride, the Church. Believing couples who are products of godly marriage must not divorce each other, irrespective of offences.

Topic: Born Again [Billy Graham Daily Devotional 6 September 2018]
Clothe yourself with this new nature. — Ephesians 4:24 (TLB)
In Texas they tell a story about a man who used to hitch his horse every morning in front of the saloon. One morning the saloonkeeper came out and found that the horse was hitched in front of the Methodist church. He saw the man walking down the street and called out, “Say, why is your horse hitched in front of the Methodist church this morning?” The man turned around and said, “Well, last night I was converted in the revival meeting, and I’ve changed hitching posts.” That’s what it means to be born again. That’s what it means to be converted. It means that you changed hitching posts.
Prayer for the day: May I live in such a way that people will know that I am bound in the freedom of Your love.

TOPIC: GOD’S VOICE [ANDREW WOMMACK 5 SEPTEMBER 2018 DAILY DEVOTIONAL]
John 12:28 “Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.”
Text: John 12:20-28
This is the third time recorded in the gospels that the Father spoke in an audible voice to or about Jesus (First, at Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan River and second, at the transfiguration of Jesus).
This verse makes it clear that it was a voice that the Father spoke in; however, there were different reports of the same event. Some people heard a voice and thought it was an angel who spoke. Others thought it was thunder.
This illustrates “the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Cor. 2:14). A carnal man with a hardened heart will always find some natural explanation for the supernatural even if he heard an audible voice from God.
A hard heart keeps us from perceiving spiritual truths and stops us from understanding. When a person doesn’t understand God’s Word, Satan finds no resistance when he comes to steal it away. A hard heart keeps us from remembering. This isn’t to say that facts or scriptures can’t be recalled, it’s the spiritual lessons learned that have been forgotten. Likewise, some people can quote scripture or remember what the sermon was about, but they can’t perceive the spiritual life in it or retain what they did perceive, because of a hardened heart.
Jesus didn’t need to hear this audible voice of God because he had a more sure word of prophecy than the audible voice of God from heaven (2 Pet. 1:18-20). Jesus knew the “voice” of the Old Testament scriptures that spoke of the Christ being glorified and He could also hear the Father’s voice in His heart as He had on so many other occasions. This audible voice didn’t come to reassure Jesus, but it came to those who had ears to hear, so that they might believe.
