Open Heaven 6 November 2018 – The Fields are Ripe for Harvest

Topic: The Fields are Ripe for Harvest

Memorise: “Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.”– John 4:35

Read: John 4:34-38 (KJV)

34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

Bible in One Year: Jeremiah 46-48, Luke 17:11-37

 MESSAGE:
In preparation for the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, your involvement in soul-winning is an indicator that shows how big your dream of heaven is. Anyone who has a big dream of the second coming will do everything within his or her power to ensure that not only is the gospel preached all over the world, but also that souls are won in multitudes to the kingdom of God. In Matthew 24:14, Jesus said:

“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”

In other words, our dream of a new heaven and a new earth cannot be realized until we have preached the gospel all over the world. It is therefore incumbent on us to pursue the actualization of our dream of the coming kingdom through aggressive evangelism, missionary works and soul-winning.

No matter how much we discuss and study the second coming of Christ, it is of no use if we do not do what will bring the kingdom of God back to the earth. The task ahead of us is very simple if we really want to be true to our Master. He has assigned the easier part of the assignment to us, which is reaping the harvest of fields we did not cultivate, and receiving the accompanying wages. John 4:36 & 38 says:

“36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. 38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.”

Others, like the early apostles of Jesus Christ, have labored in the fields, expecting that we as reapers will bring in the harvest in the last days. The work ahead of us is easier than ever before; all we need to do is to make ourselves available for the ready-made harvest of souls all over the world. Romans 8:19 says:

“For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.”

The world is waiting for us; if we do not fulfill our assignment as reapers, the harvest will be wasted. However, if we put in our sickles as commanded, we and the souls rescued from eternal damnation will be happy. If we choose to be complacent in soul winning, our Lord’s return will be delayed, and this would prolong our suffering in this world (Romans 8:23). Therefore, put in your sickle today.

 Action Point:
Determine to reap the already white harvest around you, and make disciples of your neighbors who are earnestly seeking God’s deliverance.

 Hymn 7: Wonderful Story Of Love
1. Wonderful story of love;
Tell it to me again;
Wonderful story of love;
Wake the immortal strain!
Angels with rapture announce it,
Shepherds with wonder receive it;
Sinner, oh, won’t you believe it?
Wonderful story of love.

Chorus:
Wonderful! Wonderful!
Wonderful, wonderful story of love.

2. Wonderful story of love;
Though you are far away;
Wonderful story of love;
Still He doth call today;
Calling from Calvary’s mountain,
Down from the crystal-bright fountain,
E’en from the dawn of creation,
Wonderful story of love.

3. Wonderful story of love;
Jesus provides a rest;
Wonderful story of love;
For all the pure and blest,
Rest in those mansions above us,
With those who’ve gone on before us,
Singing the rapturous chorus,
Wonderful story of love.

Topic: Unprofitable Servant

Text: Matthew 25:14-30 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth“ (Matthew 25:30).

MESSAGE:

Beginning with a lord who travels “into a far country”, the parable moves on to tell of how he leaves his servants with various amounts of resources to work with. No one is left without something to keep him busy while the master was away. Naturally, their lord expects good returns for this generous investment. Two of the men made judicious use of what was given them, while the third buried what was given to him. He buried himself as it were!

It is worthy to note that the parable was presented towards the end of our Lord’s ministry on earth. The allegory is correctly called the parable of the talents because what the Lord describes as “goods” were really talents or gifts, abilities and resources, which God has graciously given to everyone He created, including the sinner and the rebellious.

The Lord expects the sinner and the backslider to apply the gifts of existence and their free will to respond to the gospel of salvation offered by Christ. He expects them to turn from sin, believe in Him and escape the wrath of God. Believers are also endowed with enormous resources to exploit to serve God. They have been blessed with physical energy, time, education, the living gospel, the sanctified Church, the Holy Ghost’s power, modern Information Technology tools and so on. We must use these gifts to seek lost souls as we await the Lord’s return.

The diligent Christians must not be like the unprofitable servant. Rather, they should channel their skills in administration, music, writing, electricals and electronics, oration, mentorship, teaching, etc., towards bringing souls out of the pool of sin and edifying believers in the church of God. As stewards of all that the Lord has given, profit must be made in His service.

Thought For The Day: Don’t be over-protective of your talents; use them for the kingdom of God.

SEEDS OF DESTINY 6 NOVEMBER 2018 DEVOTIONA

SEEDS OF DESTINY 6 NOVEMBER 2018 DEVOTIONA

TOPIC: THE COMPULSORY TRANSACTIONS OF LIFE

Scripture: For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Galatians 6:8

Thought For Day: The way you live determines the way you will end in time and in eternity.

It is important to note that the world is said to be like a marketplace where transactions are made. To take in oxygen for instance, a person must give out carbon dioxide. In the same manner, every single action of a person attracts a corresponding outcome as exchange; it may be a loss or gain, in time or in eternity. So, life is all about transactions with both time and eternal consequences.

In Genesis 38:1-11, Judah slept with a woman of Canaan, a tribe of people that both God and his parents never wanted anyone to mingle with. The outcome was a series of calamities because of his failure to adhere to set principles.

Beloved, the way you live determines the way you end in time and in eternity. If there is no law or principle guiding your life, the accident of destiny is not preventable.

If a person forges signature and makes a false certificate to get a job, it is certain that he would have problem in the job because foundation determines destination. The harvest of deception is disaster.

My counsel is, at every point in your life, ensure that what you give is equal to what you get in every transaction; ensure that you are not losing more than you are gaining like Esau who made a disastrous transaction.

Remember this: the way you live determines the way you end in time and in eternity.

TOPIC: DAD AT THE DENTIST

Read: Matthew 26:36–39, Bible in a Year: Jeremiah 37–39; Hebrews 3

My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will. Matthew 26:39

I didn’t expect a profound lesson about the Father’s heart at the dentist’s office—but I got one. I was there with my ten-year-old son. He had an adult tooth coming in under a baby tooth that hadn’t fallen out yet. It had to come out. There was no other way.

My son, in tears, pleaded with me: “Dad, isn’t there another way? Can’t we just wait and see? Please, Dad, I don’t want to have this tooth pulled!” It just about broke my heart, but I told him, “Son, it’s got to come out. I’m sorry. There’s no other way.” And I held his hand as he wriggled and writhed while the dentist removed that stubborn molar, tears in my eyes too. I couldn’t take his pain away; the best I could offer was to be present with him in it.

In that moment, I remembered Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane, asking His Father for a different way. How it must have broken the Father’s heart to see His beloved Son in such agony! Yet there was no other way to save His people.

In our lives, we sometimes face unavoidable yet painful moments—just like my son did. But because of Jesus’s work for us through His Spirit, even in our darkest moments our loving heavenly Father is always present with us (Matthew 28:20).

Prayer: Father, thank You for loving us so much that You sent Your beloved Son to save us, even though it must have broken Your heart to do so. In our times of joy or pain, thank You for Your Spirit holding and carrying us.

Our loving heavenly Father promises He is always present with us, even in our darkest moments.

INSIGHT:
In Matthew 26:36–39, we catch a crystal-clear glimpse of the Savior’s humanity. The Last Supper is over. Jesus has foretold Judas’s betrayal (v. 25) and predicted the disciples’ abandonment of Him (vv. 31–35). Now they’re in the garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus often brought His disciples (Luke 21:37; 22:39). As He prepares to talk to His Father, Jesus tells the disciples, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me” (Matthew 26:38). Think of it! In this, His darkest hour, the Creator of the cosmos requests the company of His friends.

Jesus goes a short distance away to pray, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me” (v. 39). Yet even Jesus doesn’t get all His prayers answered with a yes. Soon He will cry out from the cross, “My God, my God why have you forsaken me?” (27:46). The cup of suffering will not be taken from Him. He will drink it in our place. And He will do it alone.

God has promised us, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). When I face my darkest moments, do I believe this?

Topic: Seek The Will Of God

Luke 22:42 “Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.”

Text: Luke 22:41-42

Jesus knew it was the Father’s will for Him to be made an offering for the sins of the world. This is true because He prophesied His death and resurrection many times before. However, because of His unique relationship with God, Jesus was asking God to accomplish His will some other way, but at the same time affirming His commitment to do His Father’s will and not His own.

He was not at a loss to know God’s will and therefore, left this time of prayer trusting that whatever the Father deemed best for Him would happen.

He knew, when He began praying what the Father’s will was and He knew at the close of His prayer, that God’s will could not be accomplished any other way.

For us to pray, “Lord, if it be thy will” in response to a promise that God has given us is nothing but unbelief and is not even remotely related to what Jesus did in the Garden of Gethsemane. One of the foundational principles of answered prayer is that we must believe that we receive when we pray (Mk. 11:24). There is no way that we can fulfill that condition if we don’t know God’s will in that situation. Praying, “if it be thy will” takes us out of the active position of believing and puts us in the passive position of waiting and letting circumstances rule our lives. If we are seeking direction in an area where God’s will is not already expressed through His Word, then we should pray James 1:5, and ask for wisdom. Then we can believe that we receive when we pray, and with that knowledge continue our prayer in faith.

We should not be ignorant but understand what the will of the Lord is (Eph. 5:17).

The only appropriate time to pray, “If it be thy will” is when we are dedicating ourselves to the service of God, regardless of where or what that may be.
