Topic: Fathers and Sons

Read: Ephesians 4:31–32, Bible in a Year: Jeremiah 43–45; Hebrews 5

He will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers. Malachi 4:6 esv

My father was a good father, and, in most respects, I was a dutiful son. But I allowed my father to starve for the one thing I could have given him: myself.

He was a quiet man; I was equally silent. We often worked for hours side-by-side with scarcely a word passing between us. He never asked; I never told him my deepest desires and dreams, my hopes and fears.

In time I woke up to my reticence. Perhaps the perception came when my first son was born, or when, one by one, my sons went out into the world. Now I wish I had been more of a son to my father.

I think of all the things I could have told him. And all the things he could have told me. At his funeral I stood beside his casket, struggling to understand my emotions. “It’s too late, isn’t it?” my wife said quietly. “Exactly.”

My comfort lies in the fact that we’ll be able to set things right in heaven, for is that not where every tear will be wiped away? (Revelation 21:4).

For believers in Jesus, death is not the end of affection but the beginning of timeless existence in which there will be no more misunderstandings; relationships will be healed and love will grow forever. There, the hearts of sons will turn to their fathers and the hearts of fathers to their sons (Malachi 4:6).

Prayer: Father, thank You for forgiving me and allowing me to experience a restored relationship with You. Help me to seek reconciliation in my broken relationships and deeper connections with others close to me even as I await the healing that will come in Your presence.

In God’s power and love, draw closer to others while there’s time.

INSIGHT
Scripture is very realistic about the difficulty of reconciliation. A community made up of broken people (Ephesians 4:17–24) will struggle with unity. Still, Christ’s victory over all evil (vv. 7–10)—including in our hearts—means that we can have profound confidence that believers, as Christ’s body, will grow in unity as His love brings us together (vv. 15–16).

But believers must “make every effort” (v. 3) to cultivate a community committed to “speaking the truth in love” (v. 15)—holding each other accountable for exchanging our natural lifestyles (vv. 25–29; 5:3–18) for the Spirit’s “way of love” (5:2, 18–20).

Most important, cultivating unity requires a forgiving, grace-filled spirit (4:32; 5:2) through the power of Christ’s Spirit, who loved us long before we loved Him.

This side of eternity, persistent sin may make it impossible for some relationships to be fully restored. Yet we can rest in Christ’s victory, trusting that His love and power will one day bring all of God’s children to perfect unity.

Topic: God’s Blessing- The Foundation For Glorious Feats In Life

Scripture: In the beginning God created the Heaven and the earth. So God created man in his own image,…And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion…. Genesis 1:1, 27,28

Thought For The Day: The Blessing of God is more crucial than money for the beginning of anything.
Previously, we saw that the Blessing of God is one of the most powerful forces on earth. The Blessing is also the curse-proof, struggle-proof garment that God Himself put on a person. It is something God decorates a person with in order to exclude him/her from the realm of curses, limitations and struggles.

Now, let’s look at one of the benefits of the power of the Blessing:

The Blessing imparts the supernatural force for the commencement of a new beginning.

The Blessing is more crucial than money for the beginning of anything. In Scripture, we understand that whenever anything new was about to be inaugurated, God started it with the Blessing. At creation, God did not give Adam money or certificate but the Blessing. So, you can begin a new home, business, or ministry with the Blessing and it cannot fail.

Now, I would like you to take note of the following:

1. The Blessing is needed for victory over stagnation or inertia
It is the Blessing that makes a person overcome what is holding others back.

2. The Blessing is the force behind every supernatural success story
To be blessed is to be successful.

3. The Blessing is the factor for doing what others have not done before and doing it excellently
Beloved, make up your mind to be blessed by God no matter what it would cost you.

Remember this: The Blessing is more crucial than money for the beginning of anything.

Assignments:

1. Make demands on God’s Blessing upon anything you are doing or intend to do.
2. Determine to follow the Will of God always.
3. Be involved in covenant practices like tithing, giving to the poor, the less privileged and for Kingdom advancement.

Topic: Stay Connected

Text: Numbers 14:40-45 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies“ (Numbers 14:42).

MESSAGE:

Three men were being chased. Suddenly, they came to a cliff top which was by the ocean. The last man, the strongest of the three, decided he should take an extra-long run-up to reach the moon. At a great speed, he leapt from the cliff. He soared through the air with outstretched arms in order to reach the moon. But he plummeted, screaming to the jagged rocks below. He had leapt an impressive eight metres; however, he did not realise that the distance to the moon was 221,463 miles.

The Scripture passage for reading shows the congregation of Israel in the wilderness weeping and complaining that they had been brought out from Egypt to die in the wilderness following the report of the ten spies. They even attempted to return to Egypt. After Moses and Aaron interceded on their behalf, they decided to go to battle and enter Canaan against the counsel of Moses.

The above can be attributed to their disconnection from God in their hearts. Many Christians are still connected to the world. When God requests a change in their attitude, business, workplace, marriage and child training, they ignore the warnings and continue in their ways.

Believers are to be spiritually prepared for whatever life brings their way. The only way to do this is to spend quality time with God. You will not hear from God except you are listening. Don’t be like the strongest of the three, who disconnected from others and fell; or like majority of the children of Israel in the wilderness, who disconnected from God and did not get to the Promised Land. Stay connected.

Thought For The Day: Better to stay connected to God than get distracted by the world.

Topic: His Fathomless Pain

Luke 22:44 “And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”

Text: Luke 22:43-44

It is interesting that Luke is the only one of the gospel writers to mention that Jesus’ sweat was as great drops of blood. This is probably because Luke was a physician (Col. 4:14), and therefore, this had special significance to him.

There have been documented cases of people actually sweating drops of blood under extreme emotional pressure. This might explain why Luke is the only writer to mention the angel strengthening Jesus. Just as when Jesus encountered Satan during His forty days of fasting and temptation in the wilderness and the angels ministered unto Him (Mk. 1:13), so here, He needed supernatural strength to endure His sufferings.

The use of the words “as it were” might also mean that the sweat of Jesus was only comparable to blood in consistency or size, but it certainly underscores the effect Jesus’ agony had on His physical body.

Jesus’ sufferings for us were more than just physical. In the garden, before He suffered physically, He suffered emotionally, almost to the point of death. As Luke records, an angel had to come and give Him strength or the emotional struggle alone would have killed Him.

All that Jesus did was motivated solely by love. It was for the joy that was set before Him that He endured going to the cross. He didn’t do what He did to save us out of pity or a sense of obligation as our Creator. He did it because He loves us.
